Barnstormers Dust Away Amarillo, 71-42

Des Moines, Iowa - A recharged Iowa Barnstormer team took an early lead and never looked back in a decisive 71-42 victory over the Amarillo Dusters at Wellmark Field on Saturday Night. With the win, the Barnstormers improve to 5-3 on the 2009 campaign and are now in sole possession of first place in the af2's Midwest Division.

Iowa jumped out to a great start, taking an early 7 - 0 lead when Brian Villanueva hit Errick McCown on just the second play of the game for a 10-yard score. Amarillo was quick to counter when Collin Drafts hit Alex Watson on a 16-yard touchdown which tied the game at 7 - 7. The Barnstormers then went on a 28-3 run dominating much of the second quarter, and giving them a 35-10 halftime lead.

The third quarter began with Amarillo cutting the lead to 35-16. However the Barnstormers countered with a 57 yard kickoff return by Tim Dodge followed by a 47 yard interception return for a score by Tanner Varner to give Iowa to increase the lead to 49-16. Amarillo countered with scores on their next three possessions, however Iowa responded with two fourth-quarter Jeff Glas field goals and a safety by Charles Johnson to secure the victory for Iowa.
