Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

Bossier City, LA- The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings defeated Southwest Division rival Rio Grande Valley Dorados 76-59 at the CenturyTel Center Friday night to raise their record to 4-4 and drop the Dorados to 5-3 on the 2009 season. The BattleWings fell behind early when Dorados' QB Nick Hill hooked up with WR Rod Windsor on a 6 yard touchdown pass to give the Dorados a 7-0 lead. The BattleWings answered right back with an 11 yard scoring strike from Wings' QB Andrico Hines to WR Buchie Ibeh to tie the game at 7-7. The two teams continued trading scores until midway through the 2nd quarter when the BattleWings notched their first defensive stop of the game and took the lead (28-21) for the first time on a FB Jason Schule 3 yard touchdown run. Dorados' WR Craig Turner tied the game at 28-28 with a spectacular 44 yard touchdown reception, but the BattleWings scored 14 unanswered points to take a 42-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The BattleWings were forced to settle for a 23 yard Art Carmody field goal to start the third quarter after scoring touchdowns on every one of their offensive possessions in the 1st half. Dorados' WR Rod Windsor and Wings' WR P.J. Berry then put on a show for the 2,967 in attendance as the two dynamos swapped touchdown receptions on six consecutive possessions. Wings' K Art Carmody ended the Windsor-Berry touchdown fest with his second field goal of the night (21 yards) to give the BattleWings a 69-47 late in the 4th quarter.

A Bret Smith 7 yard touchdown reception cut the BattleWings' lead to 69-53, but Wings' QB Andrico Hines (19-29-0, 274 yards) put the game out of reach with his seventh touchdown pass of the night on a 1 yard strike to Marvin Byrdsong. Dorados' QB Nick Hill (27-37-2, 385 yards 9 TD's) responded by connecting with WR Rod Windsor on a touchdown for the seventh time of the evening, but the score was merely cosmetic as only 20 seconds remained in the game.

The BattleWings will travel to Albany, Georgia next week (May 30th) to take on the South Georgia Wildcats at the Albany Civic Center.
