Lancaster Stormers News Release

Lancaster's offense could not solve left-hander Ryan DiPietro for six innings on Saturday evening, and Bridgeport downed the Barnstormers for the third straight night, 5-2.

With the loss, the Barnstormers fell into third place in the Freedom Division.

DiPietro (4-4) allowed three hits and a run while walking four and striking out five. All three hits allowed were singles, and the Connecticut native had one stretch of 15 batters where the ball was not hit beyond the infielders.

Henry Mateo provided the Bluefish with an immediate 1-0 lead on a homer off the upper tier of signs in left center field leading off the game against Chris Steinborn (1-3).

Steinborn faced the minimum of nine batters after that to get through the third, but Bridgeport stretched the lead to 3-0 in the fourth. Alex Prieto opened the inning with a ground rule double down the right field line and advanced on Luis Lopez' liner to deep center. Jesse Hoorelbeke hit a slow roller to short which scooted under Danny Gonzalez' glove for an error as Prieto scored. Hoorelbeke came around on a two-out double off the left field wall by Jay Caligiuri.

Mike Woods followed a pair of walks with a two-out RBI single up the middle in the fifth inning to draw the Barnstormers back to within two, but Bridgeport broke out the long ball again in the sixth on solo homers by Hoorelbeke and Caligiuri.

Lancaster gave itself a chance in the eighth inning. Mike Woods led off with a walk and took third on a single to right by Jutt Hileman on a 3-2 pitch. Ian Bladergroen plated Woods with a line drive single into left field, getting Danny Gonzalez to the plate as the potential tying run. Bridgeport changed pitchers, replacing Matt Pike with another right-hander, Jeff Tam. Tam retired the side in order on fly balls to center. Eddy Ramos recorded his second save in two nights, retiring the side in order in the ninth.
