Barnstormers Drop Pair At Long Island
May 5, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
The chill has gotten to the Lancaster Barnstormers.
On a night where the temperature hovered in the upper 40's with a stiff wind blowing in, the Long Island Ducks kept the Barnstormers in the deep freeze with a doubleheader sweep, 1-0 and 13-5.
Lancaster's losing streak has dropped to eight in a row, one shy of the franchise record.
Former Barnstormer Fehlandt Lentini went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI to pace a 14-hit Ducks attack in the nightcap. Long Island scored on four of five pitchers used in the second game and crossed the plate in five of their six trips to the plate.
Mike Dowd added a pair of RBI singles, and Cody Puckett was 3-for-3 with two doubles in the onslaught as Long Island built an 11-0 lead through five innings.
Kevin Ahrens doubled home three runs in the sixth, and Michael Crouse keyed a two-run seventh with a triple to left center to get the Barnstormers on the scoreboard for the first time since the seventh inning on Tuesday.
Jack Snodgrass (2-1) worked the first six innings for the Ducks, yielding seven hits and three runs to earn the win. Starter Brandon Bixler (0-2) was charged with the loss.
In the opener, Lancaster's Bryan Evans and Long Island's Bobby Blevins matched zeroes through the first six innings. Todd Coffey (1-0) stranded a pair of Lancaster runners in the top of the seventh inning.
Long Island needed four batters to win the game in the bottom of the frame. Evans (1-1) walked Sean Burroughs to start the inning. Dan Lyons beat out a bunt against Scott Gracey. Gracey threw a wild pitch, then walked Puckett to load the bases. He also walked Mike Blanke to force in the winning run.
The Barnstormers open a three-game series against New Britain Friday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Bryan Woodall (1-0) gets the start for Lancaster against 2015 Barnstormer Kyle Simon. The game will be carried on Blue Ridge Cable 11 and the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.
NOTES: Ahrens reached base on nine of 10 trips to the plate in the series, going 5-for-6 with four walks...Until his double, the club had been 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position in the series, with the one hit not producing a run...The Barnstormers made three errors in the first three innings of the second game, the first time this season, the club was guilty of more than one error in a game...When Long Island did not step to the plate in the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap, it marked the first Barnstormers game this season that the home team did not take its final at bat.
