Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(York, PA) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (5-9) were defeated by the York Revolution (9-6) 7-5 the back end of a day/night doubleheader at PeoplesBank Park on Wednesday evening to give the Revolution a four game series sweep. Bridgeport has now lost a season high four consecutive contests, and fall to 32-59 all time at PeoplesBank Park, having now lost nine consecutive matchups at the home venue of the Revolution dating back to the 2015 season.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on 12 hits in five innings of work, striking out four and surrendering a home run. York Starting Pitcher Ty'Relle Harris (1-1) picked up the victory, tossing five solid innings, allowing just one hit and an unearned run, walking one and striking out four.
York struck first in the home half of the second inning off Albaladejo, sending seven men to the plate while picking up a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Keith Castillo drove home Joel Guzman with the game's first run lacing an RBI double, and later in the frame Jason Repko plated former Bluefish James Simmons with a run scoring single. The Revolution would strike again off Albaladejo in the bottom of the third inning, putting up a crooked number with three more tallies to take a commanding 5-0 edge, again sending seven batters up in the frame. Telvin Nash launched a solo home run, his third roundtripper in the last two days (including the game winning walk off blast in the bottom of the 11th inning of last night's game off losing pitcher Scott Shuman). Simmons belted an RBI triple in the gap in right center field, plating Isaias Tejeda, and the rally was completed when Simmons scored on a seeing eye run scoring single from Castillo, giving York a comfortable 5-0 lead after just three innings of play. Bridgeport's uphill climb began in the top of the fourth when they scratched out an unearned run off Harris as Luis Hernandez drove home Ruben Sosa Jr. with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1 after Sosa Jr. drew a walk and advanced to second on a throwing error by Harris trying to pick off the Bluefish speedster at first base. York got that run right back in the next half inning to regain a five run edge at 6-1 when Nash drove home Josh Wilson with a double, his second extra base hit in as many at bats off Albaladejo. Joel Guzman completed the home run derby for the Revolution in the seventh inning by taking a pitch opposite field over the wall in right off Brian Moran to make it 7-1 York. Guzman had his second big fly of the series, as York finished with a total of eight home runs in the four games played between the two ballclubs.
Bridgeport would score a pair of runs in the eighth off reliever Wes Alsup to get back to within four at 7-3. Sosa Jr. drove in Josh Vitters with a run scoring groundout, and Luis Nunez would cross the plate on an error by second baseman Andres Perez off a ground ball hit by Hernandez. Looking to avoid the sweep with an improbable comeback, the 'Fish came up in the top of the ninth against Daniel Carela. Dan Johnson and Luis Rodriguez began the rally with back to back singles. Wilkin Ramirez was then hit by a pitch, and that brought Vitters to the plate representing the tying run, and he brought home Johnson with an RBI groundout to cut York's lead to 7-4. Rossmel Perez plated Rodriguez with a run scoring groundout of his own, and Bridgeport was down to their final out of the night now trailing 7-5, but then Carela induced Luis Nunez to ground into a comebacker to the mound, and York was able to hang on for the 7-5 victory to complete the doubleheader and series sweep. Hernandez, Johnson, Rodriguez, and Vitters each had one of the four Bluefish hits on the evening. Photo courtesy of Randy Flaum.
Bridgeport returns home following their brief four game road trip on Friday, May 6th when they welcome in their cross sound rivals the Long Island Ducks to the Ballpark at Harbor yard to kick of the 2016 edition of the Ferry Cup Series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 P.M. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a 2016 Bridgeport Bluefish team photo, presented by OSG.
