Barnstormers Defeat Milwaukee 47-17 in Exhibition Game

MOLINE, IL. - The Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League got a jump on the 2011 season Thursday night as they soundly defeated the Milwaukee Mustangs 47-17 in a preseason contest. The exhibition game took place at the I-Wireless center in Moline, IL, former home of the af2's Quad-City Steamwheelers.
Iowa fell behind 3-0 early to the Mustangs but would quickly gain the lead when Quarterback Bryan Lee-Lauduski found WR Todd Blythe in the end zone to make the score 7-3. Lee-Lauduski led the Barnstormers on another touchdown drive before giving way to QB Brad Banks. The fan favorite Banks did not disappoint, leading Iowa to touchdowns on all 3 of his possessions. The highlight of the night occurred when Banks found hometown favorite WR Jesse Schmidt for a 14 yard touchdown strike in the second quarter.
Iowa led 21-3 at the half and did not look back, scoring 4 more times in the second half. Banks found newcomer Will Scott, increasing the lead. B.J. Hall replaced Banks for the fourth quarter and was impressive throwing for two touchdowns while rushing for a third. The Barnstormers defense also contributed with numerous stops and all-around solid play.
The 2011 Iowa Barnstormers season begins on Saturday March 19th with a road contest against the Pittsburgh Power. The home portion of the schedule begins Friday, March 25 when the defending Arena Bowl Champions the Spokane Shock come to Wellmark Field.
