Lancaster Stormers News Release
Daryl Thompson is the reigning Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year for a reason.
The right-hander blanked the hot hitting Lancaster Barnstormers, 3-0, in the second game of a doubleheader as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs avoided a sweep of the three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Lancaster won the first game of the doubleheader, 8-6, on the strength of three homers and a solid start by Augie Sylk.
With the split, the two clubs remain tied for the top spot in the North with matching 13-11 records. York has climbed to within 2 1/2 of the division lead.
In the opener, the Barnstormers rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-1. Their first run came on a Nick Shumpert RBI double in the top of the third. Le Darious Clark followed with a tying two run homer to right center in the fourth, and Lancaster forged ahead in the fifth when Alejandro De Aza connected on a line drive over the boards in the right field corner off Misael Siverio (1-2, 1-5).
Lancaster would continue the fifth inning attack. Kelly Dugan chased Siverio with a single into center. Clark followed with another off reliever Endrys Briceno. Trayvon Robinson drove home the inning's second run with a ground rule double to right. Anderson De La Rosa singled to left to score Clark, but Cesar Trejo threw out Robinson at the plate for the second out. Jake Hoover grounded a single into right to plate De La Rosa for a 7-3 lead.
Blake Allemand added the third homer in the top of the sixth.
Southern Maryland fought back with a solo homer by Josh McAdams and a two-run blast by Joe DeLuca in the bottom of the inning. Scott Shuman nailed the game down with a scoreless seventh for his 16th save.
Augie Sylk (4-4) worked five innings for the win, yielded six hits and three runs while walking two and striking out four.
Thompson (11-2) was at his best in the nightcap. The right-hander yielded three singles and did not allow any Barnstormer beyond first base. He did not walk a batter and matched his season high with eight strikeouts.
Dominic DiSabatino (9-5) also went the distance for the Barnstormers. Jovan Rosa reached him for a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. An RBI infield single by Matt Hibbert with two outs in the second made it 3-0.
DiSabatino went the distance, giving up seven hits. He walked none and struck out four.
The Barnstormers open a four-game weekend series at Long Island on Friday night. Lancaster will send Nile Ball to the mound against fellow right-hander Scott Harkin. Fans may tune into the YouTube Channel at 6:30.
NOTES: Kelly Dugan's 16-game hitting streak was stopped in the second game...DiSabatino threw his sixth quality start...Lancaster was shut out for the third time this season, all three thrown by Southern Maryland.
