Lancaster Stormers News Release

LANCASTER, Pa.- The Barnstormers will raise the curtain on their eighth season at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Tuesday, May 1 on their quest to dethrone the archrival York Revolution as Atlantic League champions according to the 2012 league schedule released earlier today. They will host the Somerset Patriots in the 2012 home opener.

That first home game follows a short visit across the Mason-Dixon line for the season Opener against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday, April 26.

Butch Hobson's squad will welcome the newest Atlantic League entry, the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters for the first time on Friday, May 4th. The Skeeters become the first team in the league's planned western expansion and will join the Freedom Division, competing with the Barnstormers as well as York and Somerset. The addition of Sugar Land will mark the first time any Atlantic League team has played outside of the northeast in the league's 15-year history. The Barnstormers will take their initial flight as they travel to suburban Houston for the first time, starting a four-game series on May 24th. Lancaster will journey back to the Lone Star State for a six-game set in the second half of the schedule.

This year's schedule features 140 games, which includes 70 Barnstormers home games. The Barnstormers will face each club a total of 20 times throughout the season.

Highlights of the schedule include:

* The initial battle of the 2012 War of the Roses against York on Friday, May 18. It will be the first meeting between the two clubs since their classic best-of-five playoff series to decide the Freedom Division championship in late September.

* Home games on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

* At least one spectacular fireworks show on each of the 11 home weekends during the regular season.

* The Atlantic League All-Star Game at Camden's Campbell's Field on Wednesday, July 11th.

The Barnstormers home schedule features 18 games in May, 12 in June, 14 in July, 16 in August and 10 in September. Lancaster will travel to Southern Maryland for a three-game series to close out the regular season, which will end on Sunday, September 23. It will be the first year that the Barnstormers have finished off the season on the road.

"I'm already getting fired up for the 2012 season," said Hobson. "Seeing the new ballpark in Texas will be great. But I'm really excited about another season in front of our tremendous fans in Lancaster."
