Barnstormers Add to Roster and Coaching Staff

DES MOINES - Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee had another busy week as he continued to shape the team's roster for the 2012 season. During the course of the past few days Linebackers John Mohring and Will Patterson were assigned to the Barnstormers, while Assistant Coach Trever Whiting re-joined the team.

Mohring (6-0, 225) joins the Barnstormers for the 2012 season after spending time with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. He played college football at Georgia Southern where he finished third in tackles in the Southern Conference with 93 tackles in 2006. Mohring was named to the 1-AA coaches All-American team in 2006. He has gathered valuable arena football experience having spent time with the Orlando Predators, Grand Rapids Rampage and Alabama Steeldogs (af2).

Patterson (6-1, 237) joins the Barnstormers after a four-year career at Indiana University (2006-09).

He was named team captain as a senior and collected 67 tackles, good for third on the team. Patterson finished his time at Indiana with 267 tackles in 38 career games and was a recipient of the 2009 Harold Mauro award, given to the Indiana University player who best exemplifies quality values to the team and to the community.

In some non-player news, Hohensee also announced this week the return of Trever Whiting to the Barnstormers coaching staff. This season he will concentrate on coaching all aspects of the Barnstormers special teams, along with the offensive line. Whiting joined the Barnstormers in 2010 as an assistant coach after 3 seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at Central Methodist University. Whiting currently resides in Altoona, with his wife Kelly and their son Parker.
