SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose SaberCats helped spread the holiday cheer Thursday, December 1, 2011 as they participated in Action Day Primary Plus's Third Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, helping raise close to $3,000 for Toys for Tots. A silent auction was held to benefit the organization, with the SaberCats donating an autographed football and four tickets to any game in 2012 to help support Toys for Tots during the holidays.

SaberCats wide receiver Taurus Johnson and offensive lineman Robbie Powell were on hand to sign autographs and take pictures with fans and were thrilled about participating in the holiday event that saw 2,000 people attend. The players even stopped by to take a picture with the one and only Santa Claus.

"I've been involved in the community before and during my time playing football so it was good to join Moorpark Preschool to help raise funds during the holiday season," said WR Taurus Johnson.

Other sponsors of the event included the San Jose Sharks, San Francisco 49ers and the Gold Rush Cheerleaders, Oakland Raiders, Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, Mix 106.5, along with a variety of restaurants that provided food for the event at Action Day's Moorpark location.

Those in attendance included San Jose City Councilman Peirluigi Oliverio with Marla Davies from 106.5 emceeing the tree lighting. The performances from the event included the Primary Plus Elementary Choir, West Valley Dance Cats with the Marine Color Guard playing the National Anthem.

Event supervisors Kristi Martinez and Beckie Crozier were thrilled with the turnout for a good cause and they were thankful for the SaberCats support.

"There was plenty of fun and entertainment for all ages to enjoy, including performances by the Dance Cats, Primary Plus Choir, and special appearances by the Gold Rush Cheerleaders, SaberCats players, and Councilman Peirluigi Oliverio, said Martinez. "We had wonderful photo opportunities with local favorites such as Andy Z, San Jose SaberCat players, 49er Gold Rush girls, and the one and only Santa Clause. We appreciate the SaberCats for participating in our event and look forward to having them next year."
