DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have signed wide receiver Josh Wilkes to the 2024 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.
Wilkes (6'2, 195, Arkansas-Pine Bluff) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his first full season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Wilkes spent four years at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. During his time with the Golden Lions, Wilkes appeared in 27 games collecting 115 receptions for 1,810 yards and 16 touchdowns earning First Team Preseason All-Conference and Second Team All-Conference selections.
Wilkes has had a taste of the indoor game, having appeared briefly with the Northern Arizona Wranglers last season.
"We have had Josh high on our personnel board since he came out of UAPB," said Head Coach Mogensen. "We missed out on him last year as he went to NAZ. Some personal issues caused him to leave that opportunity, but we are really excited to have him choose us to get back on the field. He was an explosive All-American at Arkansas-Pine Bluff and is an explosive piece to add to our receiver stable. His combination of size and speed will be tough to defend."
Wilkes will enter the Barnstormers 2024 Training Camp in the spring.
"First off I need to thank God for all opportunities," said Wilkes. "I'm most excited about this new opportunity to continue my football career, I'm excited to get around the passionate fan base of the Barnstormers and I know I will contribute great things to the team."
