Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers, defending Atlantic League champions, have signed former Los Angeles Dodgers farmhand Brian Cavazos-Galvez to a 2015 contract, it was announced today by manager Butch Hobson.

He becomes the third player, and second Atlantic League newcomer, to join Lancaster for the upcoming campaign.

Cavazos-Galvez, 27, was signed by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2009 draft out of the University of New Mexico. The Albuquerque native made an immediate impact in the Dodgers' farm system, batting, tying with current Major League All-Star Paul Goldschmidt for the Pioneer League home run title, clubbing 18 for Ogden his rookie season. Cavazos-Galvez also finished second in the league with 63 RBI that season while batting .322.

The following year, the right-handed batter finished seventh in the Midwest League in hitting and tied for tops in the circuit with 43 doubles on a Great Lakes Loons (Midland, MI) team that compiled a 90-49 record.

Cavazos-Galvez returned home to Albuquerque, at the time, the Class AAA affiliate of the Dodgers, in 2012, batting .354 for the Dukes in one of his four stops in the LA organization that season.

Last year, the former New Mexico Lobo batted .244 with four homers and 31 RBI, splitting time between Class AA Chattanooga and Albuquerque.

"You look at his career, you see that he had very good numbers early," said Hobson of Cavazos-Galvez. "He just hasn't had that many at bats the past couple of seasons. I think he will be a very fine outfielder for us."

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their eleventh season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
