Iowa Barnstormers News Release

The Iowa Barnstormers have signed defensive back Rodney Owens, Jr. to the 2024 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced.

Owens (6'1, 205, Memphis) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his first season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Owens began his collegiate career with Louisville, signing right out of high school, but did not see any action in his freshman year. He then transferred to Iowa Western Community College where he saw the field as a redshirt freshman, logging 42 total tackles, four pass breakups, two interceptions, and one tackle for loss.

Owens then transferred to the University of Memphis where he saw four seasons of play. During his time with the Tigers, Owens appeared in 46 games collecting 140 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, and five interceptions.

"Rodney is coming to us from Memphis where he played in over 40 games for the Tigers," said Coach Mogensen. "He is following the mold of bigger and more physical defensive backs that we are striving to bring in for the 2024 season. We expect Rodney to step in right away and help bring an edge and physicality bump to our defense."

Rodney will enter the Barnstormers 2024 Training Camp in the spring.

"I signed with the Barnstormers because they believe in me to be a great addition to the team to help us win football games," said Owens. "I'm most excited about being on the field again and being part of a great organization that's about to win a lot of football games."
