Lancaster Stormers News Release
LANCASTER, Pa.-The Lancaster Barnstormers will begin the defense of their 2006 Atlantic League title on Friday, May 4, 2007. The Atlantic League released its 2007 schedule today. Game times have not yet been announced.
The Barnstormers' season will begin with a six-game homestand featuring the pennant raising and ring ceremony in honor of the Barnstormers' 2006 championship on opening night. The homestand will include a weekend series with the Road Warriors followed by a three-game series against the Long Island Ducks. The 126-game schedule includes 72 home games and 54 contests on the road.
The Lancaster Barnstormers and the York Revolution, the newest franchise to join the Atlantic League, will commence their border rivalry on Friday, May 18 in the first of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The two teams will meet for the first time at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York on Friday, July 13.
"We're anxious for the 2007 season and we're looking forward to the challenge of defending our league championship," Barnstormers General Manager Joe Pinto said. "Opening night will be special as we honor the team for its championship. And we've all circled May 18 as the beginning of an exciting rivalry with York."
Clipper Magazine Stadium will play host to the Atlantic League All-Star Game, scheduled for Wednesday, July 11.
"We've already started planning to make the 2007 All-Star Game the best ever," Pinto said. "When you add that game to the rest of our exciting schedule, I think 2007 can be every bit as exciting-if not more-than this past season."
The remainder of the Barnstormers home schedule features 17 games in May, 19 in June, 13 in July, 14 in August and nine in September. The Barnstormers will play 11 weekend series at Clipper Magazine Stadium and will be home on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.
Lancaster will play 18 games against each of the other seven Atlantic League teams: the York Revolution, Camden Riversharks, Somerset (N.J.) Patriots, Newark (N.J.) Bears, Long Island Ducks, Bridgeport (Conn.) Bluefish, and the Maryland Road Warriors. The Road Warriors will play all their games on the road in 2007 and are expected to become the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in 2008.
Game times, a schedule of promotions and dates for 22-game and 10-game plans will be announced at a future date.
