Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - The 2009 winner of the H.L. Krug Crawford Memorial Award will be recognized at Friday's Western Hockey League game between the Prince Albert Raiders and Brandon Wheat Kings at Westman Communications Group Place.
In addition to being recognized as the Brandon Sun's 51st award winner for sporting excellence in southwestern Manitoba, Grade 12 volleyball standout Lisa Barclay has been chosen January's recipient of the Manitoba Blue Cross Performer of the Month Award.
Considered by many to be the best player in her age group in Canada, Lisa beat out a number of quality candidates including Brandon Wheat Kings' star center Brayden Schenn.
Barclay, who is still weighing her options on where to play university ball, capped off a tremendous year with an MVP performance in leading Crocus Plains to their second straight provincial 4A high school title.
The 17-year old grade 12 student ranked number 1 in a high school coaches poll this past year and was chosen the 2009 winner of the Mike Burchuk Award as top female high school athlete in Manitoba.
Lisa becomes the third recipient of the Manitoba Blue Cross Performer of the Month recipient for 2009-10. This year marks the sixth season that western Manitoba hockey fans have been given the opportunity to visit the Wheat Kings' official web site and nominate coaches, volunteers, athletes and officials for this prestigious award.
Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
The Wheat Kings will be hoping to salvage a split in this week's home and home series with the Raiders, after losing 4-1 in Prince Albert on Wednesday night.
