Banner Island Ballpark Set to Host 2016 CCAA Baseball Championship

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Stockton Ports, in conjunction with the Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau, have announced that Banner Island Ballpark will be the site for the 2016 California Collegiate Athletic Association's Championship. The tournament was previously held at Banner Island Ballpark in 2013 and 2014.

Championship play for the six qualifying schools will begin on Wednesday, May 11th and will finish on Saturday, May 14th, with the winner of the tournament earning an automatic bid for the NCAA West Regional Baseball Tournament.

"The Stockton Ports are excited to once again partner with the CCAA to bring another first-class baseball tournament to Stockton, while providing players and fans alike an enjoyable experience," said Ports Assistant General Manager Bryan Meadows.

The California Collegiate Athletic Association currently consists of thirteen schools including Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State L.A., Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, Humboldt State, San Francisco State, Sonoma State, and UC San Diego. Cal Poly Pomona, the conference's top seed, claimed the CCAA and NCAA West Regional titles in 2015.

"The CCAA Baseball Tournament is one of the premier Division II events in any sport in the west. The addition of two more teams will make an outstanding event even more competitive. And Banner Island Ballpark is an excellent facility, one that has helped create a great experience for our teams and fans," said CCAA Commissioner Mike Matthews. "Visit Stockton and the Stockton Ports have been wonderful partners for the CCAA. We greatly appreciate the support and sponsorship they have lent to this event over the years."
