Resilient Nuts Survive Storm in 5-4 Win

Modesto, CA. - After falling behind in the top of the eighth, the Modesto Nuts came right back in the bottom of the eighth with two runs to secure a 5-4 win against the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.

Auston Bousfiled cracked a solo home run in the top of the eighth for the Storm (37-56; 6-17) to take the lead off Matt Pierpont (W, 4-3).

In the bottom of the eighth, the Nuts' (48-45; 15-8) Troy Stein scored from third on a botched pickoff attempt from Storm reliever Eric Yardley (L, 2-4). Emerson Jimenez went from first to second on the error before Raimel Tapia drove in the game-winning run with a RBI single.

Corelle Prime whacked a homer in the Nuts' win. Wilfredo Rodriguez collected two hits with a RBi and a run scored.

Alex Balog was good in his start. The righty retired the first eight he faced and allowed just three runs with three strikeouts and no walks.

Brad Wieck tossed six innings and allowed three runs, only one earned, in his start for the Storm.
