Durham, N.C. -- Bangor's Paul Powell and Quebec's Alex Santos were selected by SportsTicker as the Northeast League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday, Aug. 23. This was the first honor for each of them this season, but seventh for Bangor and fifth for Quebec.

Powell had 12 hits in 27 at-bats last week for a .444 batting average. In addition, he stroked four doubles and a home run resulting in 10 runs batted in. Powell scored five runs and stole five bases for Bangor, which went 5-2 last week and sits in second place in the North Division. Powell is in his first season in the Northeast League, but third professional baseball season overall.

Santos, who ranks second in the NEL with 20 saves, pitched in four games last week and allowed no runs and only one hit. He saved four of Les Capitales' seven victories and in those outings struck out four, while walking three. Santos was originally selected by the Devil Rays in the fourth round of the 1999 MLB Draft. He compiled a record of 24-28 during his stint, making it as high as Double-A Orlando in 2002 and 2003. This is his first season in the NEL.
