Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have signed veteran RHP Chris Clark to a contract the Northeast League club announced today. To make room for Clark on the roster, the Jacks placed RHP Jeff Sparks on the Inactive List for personal reasons.
A product of Otero Junior College in Colorado, Clark was selected by the Padres in the 41st round of the 1994 draft, but was traded to the Florida Marlins for former major leaguer Ed Vosberg in 1997. Clark spent the past five years bouncing between the Marlins Single-A affiliate in the Florida State League, the Brevard County Manatees, and the Marlins Double-A affiliate in Portland, ME, excluding one year with Double-A Arkansas in the Rangers organization.
Clark pitched this season with the New Jersey Jackals in the Northeast League, going 1-2 with a 5.12 ERA in seven starts, including the second game of a doubleheader against the Jacks where he earned a no decision, striking out nine in 5.1 innings of work. On the year, the Flushing, NY native struck out 26 and walked 13 in 31.2 innings.
Standing at 6'1, 180 pounds, Clark has pitched professionally for ten years, spending half of those seasons at Double-A. He recorded his 500th career strikeout earlier this season with the Jackals, and has a 31-40 career record.
Sparks was 4-1 with a 1.23 ERA for the Lumberjacks this season, before leaving the team for personal reasons.
The Lumberjacks are back at Mahaney Diamond on Tuesday, August 26 against the Allentown Ambassadors to begin their final home stand of the season.
