New Jersey Jackals News Release

Conor Brooks struck out Darryl Brinkley looking with the tying run on second to seal the victory for the Brockton Rox over the New Jersey Jackals 4-3 in the rubber match of the three game set.

Down by one entering the 9th and two outs, Joe Kerrigan reached base on a single and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball by catcher Mel Rosario. Brinkley, coming into the game batting .375, was retired looking on a fastball on the outer half of the plate to end the game.

All of Brockton's runs in the game would come in the 4th inning off of Jackal starter Aaron Myers (8-7). After a Saul Bustos single and an error by 3rd baseman Joe Kerrigan, the Rox would put together back to back to back doubles from Francisco Matos, Mike Torres, and Rosario to give Brockton a 4-0 lead.

Brockton starter Greg Salvevold (1-2) earned the victory throwing 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs on eight hits and a strikeout. Salvevold's only blemish of the night was Travis Bailey's two-out homerun deep over the leftfield wall, Bailey's 1st homerun since July4th, a span of 39 games.

The Jackals, threatening in the bottom of the 8th with the tying run Bailey on third after an RBI triple, were not able to punch in the equalizer as Brooks was able to strike out Scott Samuels and Chris Rowan looking to end the inning. Rowan would be ejected as result, arguing the call.

Conor Brooks receive the save, his major league leading 18th of the season.
