
Banga named player of the week

SOUTHAVEN --- The Central Hockey League announced today that Memphis RiverKings center Travis Banga (BUNG guh) has been named the Oakley CHL Player of the week for Week 20 of CHL play. In four games last week, Banga scored three goals and had six assists in helping the RiverKings snap a 10 game winless streak and grab five points in the three games over the weekend.
Banga had a goal, including the game winner, and three assists in Saturday night's come from behind 8-6 win over Youngstown. Then on Sunday, he started a RiverKings third period rally with a goal and then assisted on the tying goal as Memphis came back from 4-1 deficit to force overtime at Oklahoma City. The Blazers would go on to win the game 5-4 in the extra period.
The second year pro from High River, Alberta leads the team with 28 goals, is tied for the lead in shorthanded goals with 4 and is second in overall scoring with 60 points. He has surpassed last year's rookie totals in both goals and points. This is the second such award in Banga's career and the third this season for the RiverKings. Last season, he was CHL Player of the Week for 1/31/05-2/6/05. This season, Michael Dilorenzo was Goalie of the Week for the week of 1/16-1/22 and Don Parsons was player of the week for 1/30-2/5.
After going 2-0-1 in three games this weekend, the RiverKings host Oklahoma City this Friday and Youngstown this Saturday. Both games at the DeSoto Civic Center start at 7:05.
