CHL Announces Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week

The Central Hockey League has announced the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for Week 20 of the CHL regular season. Memphis center Travis Banga has been tabbed Oakley Player of the Week after scoring three goals and adding six assists for the RiverKings, while Wichita netminder Sebastien Laplante earns selection as CHL Goaltender of the Week earning a pair of wins and a shutout for the Thunder.
Banga recorded multiple points in three of four Memphis contests played the past week. He scored a goal and added an assist in a 7-4 home loss to Tulsa on February 28th, and again scored with two more assists in a 5-4 overtime loss in Oklahoma City on March 5th. His top outing came at home Saturday night, potting the game winning goal to go along with three assists in an 8-6 win over Youngstown. Among Banga's 28 goals this season, nine have come while on the power play and four have been while shorthanded.
Netminder Laplante was exceptional in leading Wichita to a pair of key Northwest Division wins last week. He blanked the visiting Colorado Eagles, the CHL's highest scoring club, with 39 saves in a 5-0
win on March 1st, and then made an additional 40 saves Saturday as the Thunder pulled out a 3-2 overtime win in Tulsa. The two Laplante victories helped propel Wichita eight points ahead of Tulsa in the race for the final Northern Conference playoff berth, and the 25-year old goaltender now ranks 4th in the CHL with 22 wins and 7th in the CHL with a .916 save percentage.
