Youngstown SteelHounds News Release


The SteelHounds conclude the road portion of their 2005-06 schedule this week with games in Bossier-Shreveport and Memphis. The Hounds have been very solid away from home lately posting a 5-3-2 record in their last 10 road games. The game in Bossier-Shreveport will be the final of eight meetings with the Hounds 2-3-2 versus the Mudbugs. The road finale will be versus the RiverKings whom Youngstown has struggled against this year going 1-6-1 in eight previous match-ups. All games can be heard on ESPN Radio- 1240, The Fan and on the Hounds Webcast accessible through www.steelhounds.com. "Countdown to Face-Off" begins 15 minutes prior to face-off.

Mar. 11 at Memphis RiverKings 8:05 PM (EST) Youngstown is 1-1-1 in the last three versus Memphis

Who's Hot

- Chris Richards has two goals and 25 assists over his career-high 17-game point streak

- Joey Sewell has 10 goals over his last eight games

- Jeff Christian has 13 goals and 19 assists since February 3rd (17 games)

- Darryl Lloyd has two goals and two assists in his last three games

- Matt Hanson has eight goals in his last 10 games; had just one in his previous 46 games

Who's Not

- Mario Chinelli has not had a goal in his last six games; had four goals in the previous three games

- J.R. Holmes has gone 10 games without a point

- Ben Manny has not scored a goal in his last seven games; had four goals in his previous four games

- Simon St. Pierre is 1-6-1 since his 4-2 start allowing 31 goals over those eight games

- David St. Germain has dropped each of his last six decisions going 0-4-2 allowing 25 goals in those six games

Road Warriors

The Hounds played a couple of road games last week and earned a point in one of them making their record 5-3-2 in their last 10 away from home. Dating back further, the Hounds are 7-6-2 in their 15 games on the road in 2006. Youngstown has two road games remaining on the schedule, Friday versus Bossier-Shreveport and Saturday versus Memphis.

Richards Enjoying Career Season

SteelHounds center Chris Richards is having a career season totaling a career high 83 points. His point total and his 67 assists are both the most he has ever experience in a single season. He currently is on a league-high 17-game point streak that has seen him score two goals with 25 assists. He had another game last week giving him seven games this season where he has notched at least three helpers in a single game.

Joey Only A Flop On NBC

Joey Sewell continued his strong play this past week extending his goal streak to six games and his point streak to eight games. Over his last eight games, Sewell has scored 10 goals with six assists and sits with 28 points (17-11=28) in the 16 games he has played since joining the SteelHounds. Sewell has notched at least one point in 15 of the 16 games with Youngstown this season.

Scoring Title Within Reach For Christian

Jeff Christian continues to close in on the CHL's leading scorer for most of the season, Amarillo's Derek Hahn. Christian had a pair of goals and five assists last week and now sits with a career-high 91 points (49-42=91). He has assists in each of his last five games and has notched at least one point in 23 of his last 26 games. His 49 goals lead the CHL by 11 over both Greg Pankewicz (Colorado) and Joe Blaznek (Wichita). Christian also ranks among the league leaders with nine game winning goals (t-1st), 18 power play goals (2nd) and a .198 shooting percentage (3rd).

Final Home Stand Seats Going Fast

The SteelHounds final home stand is looking like it is going to be quite a week in the Mahoning Valley as tickets are going fast for all five games. The Hounds host the defending CHL champion Colorado Eagles on March 17th and 18th and then finish the season with a trio of games versus the Fort Worth Brahmas on March 22nd, 24th and 25th.
