Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
On Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm when the Corpus Christi Rayz host the Lubbock Cotton Kings, there will be another "King" in the Rayz corner. This weekend the Rayz are proud to welcome wrestling legend and current WWE commentator, Jerry "The King" Lawler to the American Bank Center. All fans in attendance will have their chance to meet "The King" for pictures and autographs. Lawler and the Rayz will look to crown the Cotton Kings and all of Corpus Christi is invited on the final installment of Caller-Times Family Day. Children 12 and under (limit two) will receive free tickets with the purchase of a regular priced adult ticket. For more information on how you can be there Sunday to meet the "King," call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
Decorating himself in royal blue and gold attire, and accompanied by his famous crown, Jerry "The King" Lawler is one of the most accomplished Superstars in sports-entertainment history. Lawler is a favorite among WWE fans for his historic career and weekly contributions as a broadcaster on Monday Night RAW.
A self-proclaimed "king," this excitable and outspoken Memphis native has been dishing it out on the microphone and in the ring dating back 30 years to his days on the Memphis wrestling circuit. While "The King" has scored victories over legends from Terry Funk to Hulk Hogan during his in-ring career, he is perhaps best known for his rivalry with entertainer Andy Kaufman that led to a role alongside Jim Carrey in the hit film, "Man on the Moon." The Lawler-Kaufman battles raged not only in the ring, but on television as well. Lawler's incident on "Late Night with David Letterman" where he slapped Kaufman is considered one of the most memorable moments in that show's history.
Today, heavily involved in professional wrestling with the WWE, Lawler remains one of the most admired and accomplished figures in the history of wrestling. On Sunday afternoon, he comes to Corpus Christi and all of South Texas is invited to see him live and in person.
Additionally, on Caller-Times Family Day, Sunday's game will offer fans their final chance this season to participate in a free post-game skate party. Immediately following the game, Rayz players will take the ice with the fans in attendance. Sunday will mark the final time this season that fans will have the opportunity to skate in Corpus Christi. Bring your skates or rent them at the arena for $3.
Join the Rayz this Sunday afternoon when they host the Lubbock Cotton Kings with the help of a "King" of their own. It's Jerry "The King" Lawler this Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm at the American Bank Center. For more information, please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
