Bandits Select Malawsky in Dispersal Draft

Buffalo, N.Y. (December 15, 2004) -- Buffalo Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott today announced the team selected Curt Malawsky in the Vancouver Dispersal Draft held on Wednesday night at 6:00 PM. As per league mandate, the Bandits released Darren Mutch to open an available roster spot for the all-star caliber forward.

Buffalo chose Malawsky with their first-round (ninth overall) selection in the draft. Malawsky appeared in 10 games for the Ravens during the 2004 season, registering 44 points (23+21), eight penalty minutes and an astounding .291 shooting percentage. He was traded midseason to the Ravens from the Rochester Knighthawks in exchange for a conditional first-round draft selection in either the 2005 or 2006 NLL Entry Draft.

Malawsky played six seasons in Rochester (1998-2003) and registered 134 goals, 149 assists and 283 points in 74 games. He has appeared in 84 career NLL games, recording 327 points (157+170) and 64 penalty minutes, while collecting 338 loose balls.

The Coquitlam, BC, native played for Team Canada in the 2002 Heritage Cup exhibition game against Team USA. He also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2003 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship.

Malawsky was the Knighthawks' first-round selection (second overall) in the Western Canadian portion of the 1998 NLL Entry Draft.

Buffalo declined to take an available player with the team's second-round (19th overall) selection in the draft.
