Baltimore Blast News Release
BALTIMORE, Maryland - The Baltimore Blast have announced the signing of Defender Curtis Kirby to a contract. Per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Kirby, 23, grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he graduated from Cape Henry Collegiate High School in 2014. During his playing career at Cape Henry, he received All-Conference and All-State accolades. He moved onto Virginia Commonwealth University as a three-star recruit where he was redshirted his first season. After appearing three times for the Rams, Kirby moved onto the University of Tampa.
Kirby left Tampa early to pursue a professional soccer career in Brazil. He played for both Patrocinense in the Brazilian Second Division as well as Brasilis in the third division.
Kirby returned from Brazil this summer and played for his hometown side VB United in the USL2. He appeared six times for the team before accepting a contract here at the Baltimore Blast.
Coach Danny Kelly stated "Curtis showed some good qualities during the open tryout and training camp as a defender/midfielder. He's young, athletic, can play multiple positions and has a good work rate. He's picking things up quickly, and we're hoping he will push our regulars for minutes."
The Blast will face rival Utica City FC in a rematch of the opening weekend's fixtures this Saturday 6:05 PM at SECU Arena. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster or by calling the Blast office at 410-73-BLAST.
