BAKERSFIELD, April 15, 2012 - The Bakersfield Jam completed the series sweep against the Dakota Wizards Sunday afternoon with a 93-91 victory. For the first time in franchise history, the Bakersfield Jam get a playoff series win and advance to the second round of the NBA Development League Playoffs.
Bakersfield jumped all over Dakota to start the game leading 17-7 half way through the first quarter. With superb Jam defense being displayed, the Wizards were forced into taking tough shots resulting in Bakersfield closing out the first quarter with a 33-23 lead. Trey Johnson's 11-point second quarter performance helped the Jam extend their lead to 14 points, but the Wizards battled back to cut the Jam's lead to six (51-45) at halftime. Both teams kept the game close in the second half, making it a must-see ending. It was all tied at 87 with 52.7 seconds remaining in the game, when Pattillo grabbed a missed layup and dunked it with force to give Bakersfield an 89-87 lead. With 3.6 seconds left, the Jam played outstanding defense to force Dakota's Maurice Baker into a tough shot as time expired and Bakersfield sealed the 93-91 win.
Bakersfield was led by reserve Trey Johnson who scored a game-high 24 points and snatched five rebounds. Butch recorded his second consecutive double-double in the postseason, scoring 12 points and grabbing a season-high 17 rebounds. Jam's starting guards, Jeremy Wise and Derrick Byars, each finished with 15 points. Renaldo Major contributed 10 points.
Golden State Warriors assignee Chris Wright led the way for the Wizards recording a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Stefhon Hannah and Maurice Baker scored 13 points each. Edwin Ubiles finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.
The Bakersfield Jam will host game one of the second round against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Schedule and times for the second round series will be announced soon.
