Bakersfield Uses Big First Half to Top Reno

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (28-12) dominated the Reno Bighorns (13-27) Friday night for a 115-102 home victory.

After a slight advantage to end the first quarter (27-23), Bakersfield stretched a four point lead to as many as 23 points in the second quarter as they outscored Reno 39-21 and took a commanding 66-44 lead at the half. Damion James scored 14 of his team-high 22 points in that strong second quarter, making all of his six field goal attempts including two three-pointers. The Jam's lead was too much for Reno to overcome in the second half. Bakersfield dominated Reno in points in the paint (62-38), fast break points (26-6) and in rebounds (52-38).

James (22 points, 11 rebounds) and Brian Butch (14 points, 15 rebounds) each finished the night with a double-double. Jerel McNeal scored 16 points and dished out nine assists while Adam Koch contributed 15 points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench. Quincy Acy had 13 points and eight rebounds while reserve guard Stephen Dennis had a game-high of 13 assists.

The Bighorns were paced by Dar Tucker who had a game-high of 28 points. Ronald Dupree scored 18 points and Samardo Samuels posted a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Orien Greene tallied 15 points.

Both teams face each other again tomorrow night in Bakersfield at 7 p.m. PST.
