
BayHawks Split Weekend Series with Win over Charge

The Erie BayHawks defeated the Canton Charge, 109-88, in front of 3,541 at the Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night. The loss drops Canton to 25-17 on the season and sets their East Division lead at 2.5 games with nine to play, while Erie improved their mark to 23-20 and currently sits in second place behind the Charge.
In a first period that saw six lead changes and four ties with no team leading by more than two buckets, Canton ended up pulling ahead for the 28-24 lead. Arinze Onuaku led the Charge in the opening quarter with eight points and six rebounds early on.
The BayHawks turned up the defensive intensity in the second quarter from the start, holding the Charge without points for the first 4:21 of the period. Erie ultimately held Canton to 4-of-18 shooting in the second, outscoring them 27-15 and taking a 51-43 lead into the half.
Erie extended their lead in the third quarter to as many as 18, led by Cory Higgins' effort of 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting as they increased their advantage to 80-66. The BayHawks would never trail the rest of the way and finished the year with the 5-2 edge in the season series between the two teams.
Onuaku had a team-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting with 10 rebounds and a steal in 22 minutes for his 15th double-double of the season. Kevin Jones added 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting with five rebounds and a steal in 34 minutes. Kyle Gibson added 16 points, including 8-of-8 from the free-throw line, with five assists and a steal in 33 minutes. Antoine Agudio scored 10 points with four rebounds and three assists in 41 minutes.
Higgins finished with a game-high 24 points with five rebounds in 39 minutes. Mustafa Shakur supplied 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting with six assists and two steals in 37 minutes. Erik Daniels netted 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting in 22 minutes, while Kyle Goldcamp scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 27 minutes.
