Bakersfield Falls to Los Angeles in Offensive Explosion Game

BAKERSFIELD, February 5, 2014 - The Bakersfield Jam (10-18) fell to the Los Angeles D-Fenders (16-11) on the road Wednesday night by a final score of 155-140.

In a fast paced, wire-to-wire first half where 27 lead changes and 15 ties occurred, both teams shot above 60 percent from the floor (BAK- 65.1%, LA- 63.0%) and combined for a total of 148 points (LA-75, BAK-73). Shawne Williams paced the D-Fenders with 20 points, while Jared Cunningham, on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, led the Jam with 13 points, eight assists and two steals.

Bakersfield and Los Angeles both remained hot in the second half, but the D-Fenders' scorching shooting touch from beyond the arc gave them the advantage as they outscored the Jam by seven points in the third period (40-33) and by six in the fourth (40-34).

Overall, the D-Fenders shot better from the field (57.8%-56.7%), made more three-pointers (LA-26/50- BAK-7/25) and committed fewer turnovers than the Jam (18-15). Bakersfield held the advantage in points in the paint (84-54) and in rebounds (46-37).

Cunningham finished with a game-high 31 points, nine assists and three steals. Three Jam players recorded a double-double: Ike Diogu (20 points, 12 rebounds), Damion James (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Mac Koshwal (17 points, 10 rebounds). James Nunnally had 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds, while Phoenix Suns assignee Archie Goodwin contributed 20 points off the bench.

The D-Fenders were led by Terrence Williams (27 points, 8 assists), C.J. Williams (26 points) and Shawne Williams (23 points). Josh Magette had 16 points and 14 assists.

Bakersfield will return home for a match against the Texas Legends on Friday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
