Springfield Trades Sundiata Gaines to Reno

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Armor, presented by MGM Springfield, announced Thursday that the team has traded former Net Sundiata Gaines to the Reno Bighorns in exchange for Reno's original third round draft pick in the 2014 NBA Development League Draft and the D-League returning player rights to Samardo Samuels.

Gaines was acquired by the Armor on January 31 from the Austin Toros in exchange for Bakersfield's 2014 NBA D-league third round draft pick (previously acquired by Springfield).

Samuels, 25, has played for two different NBA D-League organizations, making 32 appearances (31 starts) with the Reno Bighorns during the 2012-13 season and two starts with the Canton Charge during the same campaign. Samuels was a two-year starter at Louisville before forgoing his final two years of eligibility to enter the 2010 NBA Draft, but went undrafted. He has played 109 games (11 starts) in the NBA, all with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2010-13.

Samuels signed with Olimpia Milano during the 2013 summer and has played in 12 games with EA7 Armani (Italy) this season, averaging 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

The Armor will also receive Reno's own original 2014 NBA D-League third round draft pick.

Springfield will travel to Maine to take on the Red Claws Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before opening a four-game homestand on Saturday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. against the Canton Charge for Health & Safety Night. The Armor will wear custom Police and Firefighter tribute jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game with the proceeds benefiting Open Pantry Teen Parent Program.
