Bakersfield Blitz News Release

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Blitz have been assigned five players by the af2, QB Bobby Pesavento, DS Donte Williams, WR/LB James McGill, OL/DL Adam Fitcher, and OL/DL Shawndell Tucker.

Originally from Scherville, Indiana, Bobby Pesavento (6'4, 230) graduated from University of Colorado in 2001. Shortly after, Bobby spent the 2002 season with the Cape Fear Wildcats of the af2. In 2003, he advanced to the AFL's Colorado Crush and then went on to play with the Austin Wranglers for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Bobby will be replacing Antoine Taylor as backup to QB starter, Mike Wall.

A recent graduate from Idaho State University, DS Donte Williams (6'1, 195) is now closer to his friends and family who are in his hometown of Los Angeles. Donte is entering his first year in the af2 as he will be backup to DS Alex Wallace.

Another Bakersfield native captured on the team roster is WR/LB James McGill. James attended Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College. He traveled afar for school to attend Kansas State University for the 2003 and 2004 school years. In 2003, James helped lead Kansas State to win the Big Twelve Championship game.

Back to a city of farmland, OL/DL Adam Fitcher grew up in the small farm town of Mars, Pennsylvania. He just recently graduated from Temple University with a degree in criminal justice. Adam is another rookie on the Blitz roster as he is entering his first year in the af2.

Shawndell Tucker (5'10, 187) may be a rookie in the af2, but not new to the game of arena football. Shawndell has a record of making his presence known on both sides of the game as he spent three years with the AFL's Dallas Desperados in 2002-2004. He spent the 2005 season with the Austin Wranglers. Originally from Hawaii, Shawndell attended University of Hawaii where in graduated with a degree in Sociology in 2002.

OL/DL Patrick Hughes, QB Antoine Taylor, DS Josh Robinson, WR/LB Darnell Crowder, and WR/DB Deonte Williams have all been released from the Blitz roster and have been placed on re-assignment by the af2 league office.

Head Coach Gary Compton commented on his recent transactions. "These were all great opportunities that I and the coaching staff had to take advantage of. Anytime a team reaches the second half of the season it is imperative that there are two solid quarterbacks to lead the team to a championship. Pesavento was someone I wanted from the beginning, so we took the opportunity to upgrade our backup quarterback. We, as a team, have been in a unique position as we try to find ourselves and continue our run for a championship. We have kept our core solid players on the roster; just adding a little salt and pepper to stir up the pot."

Head Coach Gary Compton will lead the Blitz when the team takes the field against the Amarillo Dusters on Saturday, June 3 at Rabobank Arena. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. Great seats are still available for home games. For more information, call 377-BLITZ or visit www.bakersfieldblitz.com.
