Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Baez brothers both had big games Sunday, but the Mighty Mussels dropped a doubleheader to the Lakeland Flying Tigers by scores of 4-2 and 8-4 at Hammond Stadium.
Nate Baez went 2-for-2 with a walk and Luis Baez clubbed his first home run of the season, but the Flying Tigers (60-59, 28-25) scored five runs off the Mighty Mussels' (62-53, 21-30) bullpen to win Game 2 by an 8-4 margin.
Luis Baez' homer was his first home run season in 196 plate appearances. His three-run shot in the fourth inning temporarily put Fort Myers in front 4-3.
Trailing 4-3 in the top of the fifth, Tigers designated hitter Eric De La Rosa singled before Danny Serretti walked. The next batter was Roberto Campos, who hammered a two-run triple to the gap to give Lakeland a 5-4 lead. Two batters later and after a pitching change, Mike Rothenberg pulled a single into right to make it 6-4.
Serretti and Adinson Reyes added RBI hits late to cap the scoring at 8-4.
Like Nate Baez, Misael Urbina also reached base three times in the loss.
In Game 1, Tanner Schobel went 2-for-2 with a walk but the Mussels couldn't string enough hits together in a 4-2 loss.
Fort Myers will visit the Bradenton Marauders for a six-game series beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
