Giving up 17 hits the Calgary Vipers were thumped 12-3 by the Chico Outlaws at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. After trailing 2-0 early in the game Calgary gave up six runs in the fifth inning to fall way behind. For the first time in the second half the Vipers have lost consecutive games and fall to 10-4. Overall the Snakes are 33-24 on the Golden Baseball League season.

Mark Michael (2-3) took the loss after giving up six runs in four innings.

Chico scored in the top of the first inning when Mitch Einertson doubled, Maikel Jova singled, and Mike Rose hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

The Outlaws doubled their lead to 2-0 in the second as Santo DeLeon, Pascal Del Real, and Mark McLemore all singled for the tally.

In the top of the fifth Chico went ahead big with seven straight hits for six runs and a 8-0 advantage. Einertson, JJ Sherrill, and Jova all singled for a run, Rose doubled in two, Mark Samuelson singled, DeLeon doubled in another, and Anthony Manuel doubled in two to cap the inning.

The hitting and scoring continued in the sixth frame as Sherrill doubled and Jova launched a two-run shot for a 10-0 lead.

Calgary got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning as Jonny Kaplan walked and scored on a Brent Metheny run batted in double.

Jorge Mejia hit a solo home run for the Vipers in the seventh inning for his third big fly of the season and a 10-2 score.

Chico got a run back in the eighth frame when Sherrill walked, Jova reached on an error, Rose walked to load the bases, and DeLeon singled in a run for a 11-2 advantage.

The Snakes scored in the bottom of the inning as Metheny walked, Julio Ramirez singled, and Caonabo Cosme plated a run with a base hit for a 11-3 game.

The Outlaws went back ahead by nine at 12-3 in the ninth when Einertson reached on a fielding error, Sherrill doubled, and Jova hit a sacrifice fly.

The Vipers continue this three-game series with the first half champion Chico Outlaws in Calgary at Foothills Stadium on Saturday July 31st at 1:35 PM for Protect and Serve Day and Sunday August 1st at 1:35 PM for 9 Inning Giveaway Day where female knuckleballer Eri Yoshida will take to the mound.
