LAST WEEK...

Friday, Jan. 3: Manchester 4, Binghamton 5 (OT)

Shots: Manchester 35, Binghamton 31

PP: Manchester 2 for 6, Binghamton 1 for 3

Binghamton faced off versus Eastern Conference leader the Manchester Monarchs on Friday and came out on top with a 5-4 overtime victory. Stephane Da Costa set up linemate Mike Hoffman with 35 seconds remaining in the overtime period to increase the Sens win streak to six straight games. Nathan Lawson stopped 31 of 35 shots to improve to 13-5-0 for the year.

Da Costa started the scoring off just 3:38 into the opening period after some great passing between Hoffman and Cole Schneider set him up one-on-one with Monarch's goaltender Jean-Francois Berube. Manchester tied the game at 1-1 with less than one minute to play in the opening period when Tanner Pearson converted on a power-play strike off feeds from Jordan Weal and Linden Vey.

Fredrik Claesson gave Binghamton the lead back 3:24 into the second on a short-handed tally from just inside the blue line. Buddy Robinson and Jim O'Brien picked up assists on Claesson's second goal of the season which also improved Binghamton's league-leading short-handed goals to nine. Just over five minutes later Chris Wideman took a feed during the power play from Andre Petersson and buried it past Berube to double the B-Sens lead to 3-1. Manchester's power-play unit drew the visitors within one with two minutes to play in the middle frame when A.J. Gale took a backdoor feed from Pearson and wristed it over Lawson making it 3-2 heading into the final intermission.

Brandon Kozun evened the scoreboard at 3-3 when he intercepted a cross-ice pass in the neutral zone and skated through Binghamton's defense before ripping a shot over Lawson's blocker at 7:32 of the third period. Just over two minutes later, David Dziurzynski redirected a shot from Corey Cowick to give the B-Sens the lead back. However, the Monarachs equalized once again when Colin Miller blasted a shot just inside the blue line that beat Lawson to force an overtime period.

Despite managing just two shots on goal in the extra period, Binghamton came out victorious when Hoffman put a feed home from Da Costa into a wide open goal mouth to give the Sens the 5-4 win and keep them undefeated in overtime. Hoffman finished with a goal and 2 assists while Da Costa added a goal and an assist to lead the B-Sens offensively.

Saturday, Jan. 4: Syracuse 5, Binghamton 6 (OT)

Shots: Syracuse 31, Binghamton 32

PP: Syracuse 1 for 4, Binghamton 5 for 7

The B-Sens needed overtime for the second straight night but still came out on top 6-5 over the visiting Syracuse Crunch. Wideman knocked home his second goal of the evening during a power play just 1:26 into the extra period to give the Sens its seventh consecutive victory. Wideman finished with two goals and an assist along with Da Costa chipping in two goals while Schneider contributed three assists and Hoffman added to his team lead in points with four helpers to lead Binghamton to the win.

Da Costa started the scoring off for the second night at the 3:34 mark of the first period. Cole Schneider sent a pass to the front of the net that was denied by Syracuse goaltender Cedrik Desjardins, but Da Costa corralled the rebound off of Desjardins' pad and fired a shot over the blocker for his eleventh goal of the year. Syracuse later answered with two goals just 23 seconds apart. The first came at the 5:40 mark from Brett Connolly followed by Geoff Walker's fourth goal of the season to give the Crunch a 2-1 lead heading into first intermission.

Less than 30 seconds into the second period Joey Mormina took a rebound from an initial Andrew Hammond save and chipped it over the sprawling goaltender to give Syracuse a short-handed goal and the 3-1 lead. However, Binghamton's power-play unit notched back-to-back goals just over two minutes apart to even the score at 3-3. O'Brien rocketed a slap shot past Desjardins at 1:13 of the second before Shane Prince tallied his sixth goal of the season with 16:37 remaining in the middle period.

Cedric Paquette was given a five-minute major in the second for boarding B-Sens captain Mark Borowiecki with 1:15 remaining giving Binghamton an extended power play to start the final period of regulation. Wideman score just 1:16 into the third to give the Sens the lead before Da Costa knocked home his second of the night just 44 seconds later to increase the hosts lead to 5-3. However, the Crunch converted twice before the final horn sounded sending the game into overtime.

The B-Sens started the overtime period on the man advantage resulting from an Evan Rankin goaltender interference call with just eight seconds remaining in regulation. The Sens converted on the power play for the fifth time when Wideman one-timed a pass from Hoffman to beat Kristers Gudlevskis, who took over for Desjardins following Binghamton's third goal of the night.

Hammond managed 26 saves for the night to earn the win which gave Binghamton their second seven-game win streak of the season. Gudlevskis allowed three goals in relief of Desjardins and was credited with the loss.

Sunday, Jan. 5: Binghamton 1, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4

Shots: Binghamton 24, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 29

PP: Binghamton 1 for 5, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 0 for 4

Binghamton was unable to make it eight consecutive victories as they fell 4-1 to the Wilkes-Barre Penguins in their fourth game in six nights. Zack Torquato and Barry Goers both finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Penguins past the B-Sens and cutting Binghamton's division lead over Wilkes-Barre to just one point.

Anton Zlobin started things off for Wilkes-Barre just past the midway point of the first when he redirected a centering feed from Goers behind the net beating Nathan Lawson and giving the hosts the 1-0 lead. Lawson and his counterpart, Eric Hartzell, clamped down the remainder of the opening period sending the teams to the locker room with the Penguins leading 1-0.

Nick Drazenovic added to the Penguins lead at the 4:14 mark of the second period with his seventh goal of the year off assists from Harry Zolnierczyk and Scott Harrington making it 2-0. Binghamton cut the lead down to one when Cole Schneider converted on the power play for the Sens at 10:53 off a feed from Matt Puempel, but it was all Penguins from there. Torquato returned the host's team lead to two goals when he notched his second tally of the year unassisted at 17:46 of the period sending Binghamton down 3-1 heading into the final frame of regulation.

Goers added a strike for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 6:35 into the last frame to push the final score to 4-1 Penguins and end the Senators seven-game win streak. Lawson finished with 25 saves on 29 shots faced in the losing effort while Hartzell earned his second win over the B-Sens in as many appearances stopping 23 of 24 shots faced to improve to 5-2-1 for the year.

Record: 21-10-0-3 (45 points)

Standings: Binghamton remains in first place in the East Division with 45 points leading second place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by one point. Norfolk sits in third place with an 18-12-1-4 record good for 41 points. Hershey holds the fourth place spot with 36 points through 33 games played while Hershey sits in last with a 14-14-2-3 record and 33 points.

THIS WEEK...

Wednesday, January 8 @ Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres)-7:05p.m.

Binghamton travels to Rochester for a mid-week tilt versus the Americans. Rochester currently sits in fourth place in the North Division with a 14-12-3-3 record over 32 games good for 34 points. This will be the third of six games against the Americans and the first on the road. Binghamton defeated Rochester 7-3 in both of their first two meetings this season.

Center Phil Varone leads the Amerks in points with 29 (six goals, 23 assists) through 32 games played. Luke Adam heads the team in goals scored with 14 in just 18 games played. Goaltender Matt Hackett has appeared in 22 games this season for Rochester compiling a 9-10-2 record with 2.92 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.

Friday, January 10 vs. Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals)-7:05p.m.

The B-Sens hosts East Division rival the Hershey Bears Friday night for the third time this season. This will be the eighth of 10 total meetings between the teams this year with the Bears holding a 4-3 series lead thus far. After Friday the two foes will not see one another until the Bears travel back to Binghamton on April 11.

Right winger Brandon Segal leads Hershey with 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) over 28 games played while left winger Nicolas Deschamps leads the team with 10 goals over 26 games played. Goaltender David Leggio has backstopped the Bears in 22 contests this season going 10-10-2 with 2.69 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. Hershey has gone 6-3-1-0 over the past 10 games.

Saturday, January 11 vs. Adirondack Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers)-7:05p.m.

Binghamton will round out the three game week hosting the Adirondack Phantoms on Saturday at 7:05p.m. The B-Sens and Phantoms have spilt the first four games of the six-game season series with Binghamton taking the last two contests. Adirondack currently sits in third place in the Northeast Division with 38 points and an 18-13-0-2 record.

Right winger Jason Akeson heads all Phantom scorers with eight goals and 19 assists through 33 games played while center Kris Newbury leads the team in goals with nine. Goaltender Cal Heeter has appeared in 23 games this season going 13-10-0 with 2.03 goals-against average and a league-leading .932 save percentage.

Promotions:

Friday night versus Hershey will be Civil War Night presented by Berkshire Farm Center. The Ghost Ryders Living Mounted Historians, who specialize in Civil War and late 1800's western history, will be on hand dressed to the time period. There will be displays around the concourse for fans to enjoy and plenty of characters to interact with and take pictures of.

AAA members who present their cards at either the Binghamton Senators Executive Office or the Box Office on Friday will receive $4.00 off the face value of their tickets (limit 2 tickets per card). Fans can also take advantage of the Friday-2-Pack deal which includes two tickets in sections 6-10, two hotdogs and two sodas for just $32.00.

Friday night will also be the first of two consecutive games the B-Sens wear a special Broome Sports Foundation patch on their jerseys. A postgame auction is scheduled for Saturday with proceeds going directly to the Broome Sports Foundation.

Saturday night's game versus Adirondack is presented by Amphenol and has less than 1,200 seats remaining as of January 6. A group of Amphenol employees will be participating in a Broom Ball game on-ice during first intermission. The Broome Sports Foundation Jersey auction will happen immediately following the conclusion of the game and fans who wish to participate must sign up at the merchandise stand beforehand.

Defenseman Chris Wideman has compiled five points (three goals, two assists) over the past three games including the overtime game-winner Saturday, January 4, over Syracuse.
