Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets came back from a three-run deficit, but Jose Bautista's bottom-of-the-ninth RBI single won it for the Altoona Curve, 6-5 at Blair County Ballpark Thursday. Altoona swept the four-game series from the B-Mets, who have dropped 19 of 25.

Binghamton (44-56) got on the board first when Mike Jacobs led off the second with a double, moved to third on a Tom Gorzelanny wild pitch and scored on Brett Harper's single to left for a 1-0 lead.

However, Altoona (54-49) would score the game's next four runs off B-Mets starter Orlando Roman. In the bottom of the second, Adam Boeve tied the game when he singled, stole second and came home on a Paul Chiaffredo single. Altoona went ahead with a three-run seventh that began with a Rajai Davis homer. Josh Bonifay and Jorge Cortes also had RBI in the frame for a 4-1 Altoona lead.

The B-Mets got back on the board in the sixth. Jeff Duncan led off the inning with a base hit and came home when Bobby Malek tripled to right. Malek would score on a Jacobs groundout, pulling Binghamton within 4-3. Binghamton tied the game in the seventh when Corey Ragsdale drew a leadoff walk, chasing Gorzelanny. Jay Caligiuri followed with a run-scoring triple off reliever Shane Youman, making it 4-4.

The Curve would re-take the lead on a Chiaffredo RBI double in the eighth, but the B-Mets tied the score again in the top of the ninth. Caligiuri greeted Altoona closer Justin Kaye (2-3) with a double and advanced to third on an Aarom Baldiris groundout. Up next was Lastings Milledge, who singled to left, scoring Caligiuri, tying the game 5-5.

B-Mets reliever Jose Rodriguez (1-4) walked Davis to begin the bottom of the ninth and, after Craig Stansberry bunted Davis to second, Bautista followed with a base hit up the middle, bringing home Davis with the winning run.

Friday the B-Mets are back at NYSEG Stadium to start a three-game series against the Akron Aeros. Lefty Evan MacLane (1-0, 0.00) is slated to start for the B-Mets against Jake Dittler (5-7, 3.33) of Akron. Game time is 7:00, with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the radio broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
