Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Binghamton Mets stumbled in their second Spring Training game, falling to the Jacksonville Suns, Double-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins, by a 12-3 score today.
Right-hander Matt Harvey, last year's 7th overall pick in the draft, got the start for the B-Mets and allowed three runs over two innings. Fourth-year Mets' farmhand Brandon Moore was the first out of the bullpen and also struggled to stymie the Suns' offense, giving up six runs in two innings on the hill.
For the second straight game, outfielder Matt Den Dekker was a key contributor to the B-Mets' offense. The Fort Lauderdale native went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double.
Jefry Marte, fresh off back-to-back seasons with Savannah (Low-A), went 2-for-3 and was the only other B-Met to have a multiple-hit day.
Eric Beaulac and Colin McHugh combined to throw three shutout innings of relief, while Erik Turgeon allowed three runs in one inning of work.
The B-Mets (1-1) continue their 14-game Spring Training schedule with a match-up against the Springfield Cardinals, Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, Friday at 1 PM in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
