Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Binghamton Mets and Erie SeaWolves combined to score nine runs in the seventh, with Erie picking up a 10-7 victory in the series opener at Jerry Uht Park Thursday.
The B-Mets (4-4) went ahead in the first when Emmanuel Garcia reached on an error, took second on a Ben Fritz wild pitch and scored on Daniel Murphy's base hit to left. Erie (6-2) tied it on Max St. Pierre's RBI single off Bobby Parnell in the second.
The game remained tied until Erie's Wilkin Ramirez reached Joe Hietpas for a bases-clearing, three-run triple in the fifth, putting the SeaWolves ahead 4-1.
Nick Evans led off the sixth with a longball to cut Erie's lead to two, but Freddy Guzman's RBI triple off Hietpas in the sixth brought in another run for a 5-2 SeaWolves lead.
Binghamton loaded the bases in the seventh against Anthony Tomey with one out on walks to Jose Coronado and Garcia sandwiched between Fernando Martinez's single. Murphy then grounded one through the right side to score Coronado and Martinez before Evans singled in Garcia with the tying run. Tomey was replaced by Danny Zell, who got Mike Carp to hit a liner to left that was dropped by Wilkin Ramirez for an error. That scored Murphy with the go-ahead run for a 6-5 B-Mets lead.
Erie answered in the bottom of the frame off Eddie Camacho, who saw Deik Scram double and score on an error by Ambiorix Concepcion in rightfield. Camacho (0-1) left after loading the bases with two out. On came Nick Abel, who gave up a grand slam to Danny Worth that put the SeaWolves ahead 10-6.
The B-Mets scored the game's final run in the ninth. Murphy hit a two-out triple off Zell (1-0) before scoring on Evans' base hit to left.
Friday, the B-Mets play the second game of their four-game series at Erie. Eric Brown (0-1, 12.00) will start for Binghamton against lefty Luke French (0-0, 3.00) of Erie. Game time is 6:35 from Jerry Uht Park with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: B-Mets pitchers walked a season-high 10...Binghamton has alternated wins and losses through their first eight games...Over the last five games, Murphy is 10 for 21...Worth's grand slam is the first longball Abel's allowed in his pro career, which is in its third season.
