NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 6:35 PM
LAST GAME: Greg Peavey tossed eight strong innings and the Binghamton Mets backed him with an eleven-hit attack in a 6-1 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton grabbed a big lead early, plating five runs in the second off Jack Snodgrass. Rylan Sandoval and Kyle Johnson each chipped in with two-run hits to highlight the big inning. It was the B-Mets eighth win in nine games and pushed them to nine game over .500 for the first time this season.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Tyler Pill takes the hill for the 13th time this season and makes his 12th start. Binghamton has won the last seven games in which he's appeared. This comes after the team lost his first five starts. Pill allowed two runs in 5.2 innings and got the win in his last outing, a 4-2 Binghamton win on Saturday, June 14 against the Erie SeaWolves. The Covina, California product was drafted by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2011 draft out of Cal State-Fullerton.
RICHMOND STARTER: RHP Kyle Crick makes his 12th start of the season for Richmond and his first against Binghamton. The Ft. Worth, Texas native is coming off a loss in his last outing. He gave up four runs in five innings in a 6-3 loss to New Hampshire on Friday, June 13. Crick is 4-1 with a 2.93 ERA on the road this season. The righty was taken by San Francisco in first round of the 2011 draft out of Sherman High School in Sherman, Texas.
RIDING THE WAVE: At 40-31, Binghamton is at it's high-water mark of the season. The team has won nine of it's last 11 outings and are now just 5.5 games back of first place Portland. Six of those wins are against Akron and Richmond, who are a combined 21 games above .500.
FINDING THEIR HAPPY PLACE: The B-Mets have been dominant at home in 2014. The team is 25-13 at NYSEG stadium, the best mark in the Eastern League. That includes winning 16 wins in their last 22 chances.
BEATING THE BEST: The B-Mets were up against two of the best pitchers in the Eastern League in the first two games of this series. Ty Blach and Jack Snodgrass are both top-ten in the league in ERA, but Binghamton tagged them for a combined six runs in 6.1 innings. Each starter has taken the loss in the first two games. Wednesday's defeat was the first of the year for Snodgrass.
NOT HURTING THEMSELVES: Binghamton has committed 47 errors thus far this season, the lowest total in the league. The team has had just one in the last nine games. Six other teams in the league have 60 errors or more.
SATTER-GOOD NIGHT: Cody Satterwhite has been a force out of the bullpen for Binghamton this season. He has retired the first batter he's faced in 22 of his 25 outings this season. That includes inducing a groundout to the first batter he faced in 1-2-3 frame on Wednesday. The righty has a 0.83 ERA on the season, the lowest on the team. He's given up just two runs in 21-2/3 innings.
CRACKING THE WHIP: Binghamton pitchers have the second lowest WHIP in the Eastern League at 1.29. The team has not allowed an opponent to reach double digits in hits in the last six games and have walked four or fewer in each of the last nine outings.
WOULD YA LOOK AT THAT: Against teams not named Portland, Binghamton is 36-21 this season. The squad doesn't have a losing record against any of the other seven teams it's played. The B-Mets have yet to take on Bowie, Reading and Trenton, who have a combined record of 104-108.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets hit the road for a three-game set against the Bowie Baysox. The series begins on Friday at 6:35 PM. RHP Hansel Robles takes the mound against LHP Jake Pettit.
