LAST GAME: Dilson Herrera scored the game-winning run on a Olver Drake wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Binghamton Mets over the Bowie Baysox, 9-8, on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Herrera tied the game with a triple that plated Brandon Nimmo the play before. Binghamton scored the final three runs of the game. Juan Centeno and Jayce Boyd each collected three hits. Six B-Met players had multi-hit nights. The teams combined to smack six home runs in the game. Binghamton trailed 6-1 at one point. The five-run deficit is the largest the team has overcome in a win this season.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Rainy Lara makes his 16th start of the season and his first against Bowie. The righty is coming off a loss in his most recent outing. He gave up a season-high seven runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings in a 7-3 Binghamton defeat against Trenton on Sunday, July 27. The 11 hits surrendered tied a season high. Lara is on the hill fro the for the sixth time since returning from the disabled list on June 23. He's 1-3 and has allowed 21 runs in 32 innings in the that time. He had only one loss before the injury. The Bani, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on October 31, 2009.
BOWIE STARTER: LHP Anthony Vasquez makes 19th appearance of the season and his 13th start. The southpaw has started his last seven games. That includes a win against Akron his last time out. He gave up four runs on six hits in six innings in a 12-4 Bowie victory on Monday, July 28. Vasquez is facing the B-Mets for the second time in 2014. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on two hits in 1/3 of an inning out of the bull pen on June 21. The 27-year-old was saddled with the loss in the 7-6 Binghamton victory. He's tossed at least five innings in each of his last seven appearances. The San Antonio, Texas is in his first year with the Orioles organization. He was originally taken by Seattle in the 18th round of the 2009 draft out of Southern California.
LAST NIGHT...BY THE NUMBERS: The B-Mets and Baysox played a wild one, on Friday. The teams combined for 17 runs and 26 hits. Each squad smacked three home runs and scored a run on a wild pitch. Binghamton was just 3-for-18 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base. Nine pitchers were used in the contest. There was a run scored in either the top or bottom of every frame.
LETTING THE GOOD TIMES ROLL: T.J. Rivera and Brandon Nimmo are each riding season-high hitting streaks. Nimmo has had a base knock in his last eight games, while Rivera has a hit in his last nine. The pair is a combined 26-for-69 (.377) during their respective streaks.
AND FOR HIS FIRST TRICK: Binghamton C Juan Centeno was dominant in his 2014 debut with the team on Friday. He went 3-for-4 and scored a run in the Binghamton victory. Centeno hit .291 in 53 games with Las Vegas this season.
HERRERA'S HEROICS: Binghamton INF Dilson Herrera was involved in his second walk-off play of the home stand, on Friday. He also tallied the winning sac fly, RBI on Tuesday against New Hampshire. The 20-year-old is hitting .346 in 38 games since making his Double-A debut on June 19.
CAN THE Y GET MUCH HIGHER?: With a win on Saturday, Binghamton would tie their high-water mark on the season at 21 games above .500. They last reached that point on July 17. The team trails Portland by four games for first place in the Eastern Division. Their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is at 20.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton wraps up their home stand and their series against Bowie on Sunday at 6:35 PM. LHP Steve Matz is set to take the hill for Binghamton, while RHP Zach Davis toes the rubber for the Baysox.
