Aztex Continue Road Trip in Sacramento

June 5, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (Thursday, June 4, 2015) - The Austin Aztex (4-6-1) will continue their road trip with a visit to California to face off against the defending USL champion Sacramento Republic FC (6-5-1) on June 6, 2015 at Bonney Field.

For the first time this season, the Aztex are on the outside looking in at the playoff race, after dropping their last three USL matches in what has been a tough stretch for the team offensively. Currently in 8th place in the conference, the Aztex climb back into the coveted top 6 begins now. Sacramento has continued their strong form and sit at 2nd place, but has lost 5 matches and showed vulnerability during the 2015 campaign.

Amidst their slide in the USL standings, the Aztex have showed reason for optimism in their success in U.S. Open Cup play. Convincing victories over the Laredo Heat and San Antonio Scorpions have landed the Aztex an upcoming match against MLS's Houston Dynamo on June 17th.

The Aztex have found themselves in an offensive draught during their 3 game USL skid. After netting two goals in the first 15 minutes against Arizona United SC, the team allowed a comeback to lose the match 3-2, and was shut out 1-0 in ensuing losses to Tulsa Roughnecks FC and OKC Energy FC. Forward Trevin Caesar has emerged as a dynamic offensive option in U.S. Open Cup matches, and has come just short on multiple chances in USL play. The team will look to Caesar as well as Kris Tyrpak to open up scoring, while Forward Sainey Touray is fit to travel after missing several games due to injury.

The return of midfielder Guaraci will also give the team a boost. Guaraci missed the previous game as he was serving a 1-game suspension due to an accumulation of yellow cards. He returns to join Mozzi Gyorio and Fernando Timbo in the midfield.

The defensive duo of captain Lance Rozeboom and the budding Travis Golden head up the defense, with the versatile Mikey Ambrose at their side.

Sacramento comes into the match touting a dangerous offensive attack with 21 goals on the season, which ranks 3rd in the league. The Aztex will look to capitalize on the absence of forward Rodrigo Lopez, who is in the midst of a three-game suspension. Lopez, considered the team's most dynamic offensive threat, is second in all of the USL with 7 goals and 17 points. Without him, Sacramento could look to forwards David Estrada and Justin Braun, as well as midfielder Octavio Guzman to step up on offense.

The match will be the 3rd of a 4 game USL road trip for the Aztex, with the team moving on to face Portland Timbers II on June 14th.

The game can be found live on YouTube or Aztex fans can also follow live updates on Twitter at @Aztex_Matchcast.
