Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC vs Austin Aztex

Sacramento Republic FC will take on the Austin Aztex on Saturday, June 6, at Bonney Field. Kickoff is 8:00 p.m. PDT. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. The match is Caped Crusader Night presented by Jiffy Lube.

This will be the first of two matches between Republic FC and the Austin Aztex this season and the first ever matchup between the two. The Austin Aztex joined the USL this season after spending the last three years in the USL Premier Development League, winning the PDL Championship in 2013.

Republic FC enter the match following a 1-1 draw with Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, May 30. This was just the second tie at Bonney Field and only the fourth time that Republic FC has not earned three points from a match at Bonney Field.

Forward David Estrada scored his second goal of the season against Real Monarchs on Saturday. Estrada has two goals and three assist in 12 USL appearances this season and is second on the team in points trailing only Rodrigo Lopez.

Midfielder Ivan Mirkoviæ assisted Estrada's goal on Saturday. The assist was Mirkoviæ's first as a Republic FC player in 42 appearances with the club. However, Mirkoviæ will be unable to build on his total against the Aztex as he picked up his fifth caution of the season against Real Monarchs and is suspended for Saturday's match.

The Austin Aztex enter the match trying to snap a three-match losing streak. The Aztex have been shutout in their last two matches and have not scored in 256 consecutive minutes.

Forward Kris Tyrpak leads the Aztex in almost all statistical categories. Tyrpak leads the Aztex with 5 goals, 27 shots, 15 shots on goal and 17 fouls. Tyrpak led the Aztex to the 2013 USL PDL Championship and was the 2013 USL PDL MVP. Tyrpak was drafted by 40th overall by Chivas USA in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, scoring a goal in nine appearances.

Forward Trevin Caesar has also been strong offensively for Austin of late, scoring two of his three USL goals in month of May. Caesar also scored a goal against the San Antonio Scorpions in the U.S. Open Cup.

The match will be the second annual Caped Crusaders Night, presented by Jiffy Lube. Republic FC players and their escort kids will wear hand-made capes during the pre-match ceremonies. The player-worn capes will be auctioned through halftime to raise money for Capes4Heroes, a non-profit organization that makes capes for children facing life threatening illness, disability or life struggle. Fans are encouraged to wear their own superhero attire to the match.
