OKC Energy FC News Release
OKC Energy FC (4-2-3) enters Sunday's match undefeated over its last five matches (4-0-1) and having won four straight. Two of OKC's four consecutive wins have come in U.S. Open Cup play, a 3-1 win in Midland/Odessa on May 20, and 1-0 win over Tulsa on May 27. With the win over Tulsa, Energy FC faces the MLS's FC Dallas in a June 16 match at Texas Christian University's Garvey-Rosenthal soccer complex in Ft. Worth.
Energy FC's last USL match was a 1-0 win over the Austin Aztex on May 31 at Taft Stadium. Kyle Greig netted the match's only goal in the 72nd minute of play with a sliding kick on a failed clearing attempt by Austin's Andres Cuero that resulted in the ball sailing high above the Aztex six-yard box and landing one yard from the goal line. The goal was Greig's third USL goal of the year and fifth overall, with two in U.S. Open Cup play. OKC goal keeper Even Newton recorded three saves in his second consecutive shutout and was named to the USL's Team of the Week for Week 11.
Portland (4-4-2) enters play one week removed from a 3-1 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field in Tulsa. After trailing 1-0 at the half, Timbers FC 2 recorded three goals in the second half to down the Roughnecks. Two of Portland's three second half goals came from Michael Nanchoff, with the go-ahead score coming on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. In extra time, Portland's Kharlton Belmar scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Friday's match is the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, which face-off once again when OKC travels to Portland on August 8.
