The Kingsport Axmen defeated the Bristol State Liners by a final score of 8-3. Seven innings were completed, and the game was called in the top of the eighth.
The first two innings were scoreless, and Bristol was held scoreless in the top of the third.
In the bottom half of the third inning, Kingsport had bases empty with two outs and a full count on Aaron Casillas. Casillas was hit by a pitch and then the hit parade began. Ian Riley doubled home Casillas, Jake Perry singled home Riley, Same Petersen singled home Perry, Kendall Diggs singled home Petersen, Kyle Booker singled Diggs to third and Henry Hunter singled home both Diggs and Booker. Kingsport (22-9) scored six runs on six straight hits in the third inning.
Diggs made his Axmen debut, starting at first base.
The State Liners (10-21) cut the lead to four with a two-run fifth inning, but the Axmen responded with two runs of its own to make it an 8-2 game.
Bristol scored a run in the eighth inning, but the game was called in the middle of the inning, due to pouring rain on the field. The Axmen won by five runs and improved to 7-0 on the season against the State Liners.
The Kingsport Axmen look to complete the season sweep over the State Liners on Sunday night in Bristol.
