Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK - The Aviators fell to the Normal CornBelters 24-10 in the finale to the 6-game homestand Sunday. 11 homeruns, 8 of them by Normal, were launched in the game, which featured winds blowing approximately 25 MPH straight out of Aviators Stadium.

It was a tough day to be a pitcher in Loves Park. Aviators starter Nick Grim was knocked out in the 4th inning after surrendering 11 runs, and Mike Schweiss, the righty who began the game for the CornBelters, lasted just 3 innings, surrendering 5 runs.

The CornBelters got out to a 3-0 lead, but the Aviators were able to erase it on a 3-run blast by Anthony Renteria and a solo homer by Collin Shaw in the 2nd, but the CornBelters launched 2 dingers of their own in the 3rd and 2 homers in the 4th to reclaim the lead.

Patrick McKenna ended up driving in 9 for the CornBelters, and Richard Lucas added 6 RBIs of his own. The two of them combined to bash 5 longballs.

The Aviators got another homer from Renteria, this one a grand slam in the 5th that briefly brought the Aviators back within 4. It was the second grand slam of the season and of the home stand for Rockford, who got a grand slam from Devon Rodriguez against Windy City.

The 24 runs and 25 hits Normal posted were both franchise records.

The Aviators next travel to Avon, Ohio to take on the Lake Erie Crushers in a doubleheader August 24 starting at 5:30 ET/4:30 CT. After their 4-games-in-3-days set against Lake Erie, they will travel to Normal to once again meet the CornBelters starting on Friday.

The Aviators finished their homestand at 3-3, and, by winning the first 2 of their set against Normal, clinched their 12th series of the season.
