Rascals Suffer Largest Loss of Season

River City Rascals News Release


Crestwood, IL - The Rascals (34-31) lost 17-5 to the Windy City ThunderBolts (27-37) on Saturday, August 1 at Standard Bank Stadium. Windy City's 17 runs is the most the Rascals have surrendered this season, and their 12-run margin of defeat is the largest of 2015.

RHP Dane Stone (L, 5-3) took the loss after surrendering a season-high seven runs and nine hits. He lasted just 4.0 innings and struck out three batters.

Windy City starter Zak Wasserman (W, 3-3) gave up four runs on six hits and three walks. The lefthander fanned four batters over 5.0 frames.

The ThunderBolts scored three runs in the opening inning. With two outs, Austin Gallagher singled and scored on a Max White triple to right field. Cody Keefer then singled home Whtite, and Ransom LaLonde capped the rally with a run-scoring double.

The Rascals took a brief lead by scoring four runs in the third inning. SS Josh Silver doubled and scored on a single by CF Curran Redal. LF Brian Hansen followed with an RBI double. After a hit batter and walk loaded the bases, C Josh Ludy and 2B Hector Crespo each hit into RBI fielder's choices. Hasnen went 3-for-3 with two walks and an RBI last night.

White hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to recapture the lead, 5-4. Gallagher then hit a two-run shot in the fifth frame, and White followed with a solo shot, his second, and went back-to-back with Gallagher.

RF Marc Flores hit a one-out double in the top of the sixth, and Redal drove him in on a groundout.

The ThunderBolts then plated seven runs and sent 12 men to the dish in the bottom of the inning. Alex Chittenden started with inning by walking and scoring on a singly by Coco Johnson. After a walk loaded the bases, White hit his third homerun, a grand slam. He finished 4-for-5 with a triple, three homers, eight RBI, and four runs. Marquis Riley tacked on two more runs with a double.

Silver pitched the seventh and eighth innings for the Rascals. After tossing 1.0 perfect frame at Gateway on June 5, the shortstop surrendered two runs in 2.0 innings. Gallagher hit his second homerun, a solo shot, in the seventh; he went 4-for-4 with a double, two homers, a walk, three RBI, and five runs. In the eighth, Chittenden and Tyler Clark hit consecutive doubles to plate a run.

RHP Zac Treece and LHP Stephen Frey each surrendered four runs in just 1.0 inning of relief.
