Aviators All Stars Shine in 6-4 South Victory

Coastal Bend Aviators News Release

The presence of Coastal Bend's three All-Star representatives was certainly felt in Tuesday Night's gala event in Sioux Falls. Centerfielder Brian Fryer led off the game with a hit and finished the night 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Shortstop James Lofton also had a hit, going 1 for 4 with a run scored. The game began as a pitchers showcase with neither side scoring after 5 innings. But in the sixth El Paso's catcher Matthew Kent belted a solo homerun to give the South All Stars a 1-0 lead. Fryer and Lofton followed with singles before the Diablos Jorge Alvarez crushed a 3 run homer to blow the game open at 4-0. Alvarez, who also won the homerun derby contest earlier in the day, would be named the game's MVP.

The North rallied in the home half of the seventh with 3 runs off El Paso's Greg Wiltshire, but Aviator Jonathan Hunton came on to get the final out to preserve the 5-3 lead. Hunton pitched a scoreless eighth and finished with 2 strikeouts.

The Aviator All Stars will now rejoin their teammates in El Paso to face Kent, Alvarez and the rest of the Diablos in a 4 game set beginning Thursday night at 8:05 pm. The game can be heard locally on KOPY 1070 AM or online.
