ST. PAUL, MN (July 18, 2007) - The Sioux City Explorers rolled into Midway Stadium with an impressive 10 game winning streak, but it was the St. Paul Saints who came out victorious on Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory in front of 5,817.

Explorers starter Brad Guy was making his final professional start before joining the fire department and for seven innings he was nearly unhittable, but the it was the first inning where he got into trouble. Scooter Jordan led off with a triple to right, extending his streak of reaching base safely to 42 consecutive games. Ben Thomas followed with an RBI single to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Adam Bourassa then tripled to right scoring Thomas and Marcel Longmire added a sac fly for a 3-0 lead. That was all the runs the Saints got off of Guy who earned a complete game allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out seven, but received his seventh loss of the season.

The Saints, however, countered with Justin Lord who was incredible for seven innings. The only blemish came in the fifth when he gave up a lead off double to Alex Llanos followed by an RBI single from Pete Pirman. Lord hurled 7.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out five to pick up his second victory of the season.

Tony Pierce closed it out in the ninth, but not before it got a little interesting. Jake Daubert led off with a double to right. With two outs Julian Benavides walked and a wild pitch put the tying runs in scoring position. Pierce, however, would get Llanos on strikes to end the game, earning him save number eight and his sixth in his last six appearances.

The Saints and Explorers meet for the second time during this four game series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Adam Brandenburg (4-2, 3.56) to the hill against Explorers LHP Brian Buchanan (2-0, 2.21). The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is a celebration of cows presented by Minnetronix.
