St. Paul took care of its work early, pounding three runs in the bottom of the first inning, which was all they would score and all they would need in a 3-1 win against Sioux City. CF Scooter Jordan led off the bottom of the inning with a triple, then was singled home by 3B Ben Thomas. RF Adam Bourassa then tripled home Thomas, and C Marcel Longmire followed with a sacrifice fly to score Bourassa. The Saints had plated three runs on only one out. But Sioux City starter Brad Guy certainly settled down after that, allowing only two hits and no runs the rest of the game. Guy took a tough loss, going eight innings and striking out five. He was bested by St. Paul's Justin Lord, who lasted seven innings and gave up only one run, striking out five for the win. Sioux City actually outhit St. Paul eight to five, but the pitching from Lord and relievers Jon Huizinga and Tony Pierce kept them away from the plate. In a contest that featured the top two teams in the North Division standings, St. Paul picked up a game on first-place Sioux City.
