Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES - A-Team dancers Lindsey and Bria along with public relations manager Vince Trotter took the opportunity to honor City of Lynwood Mayor Louis Byrd at the Lynwood City Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 20, to celebrate Black History Month.
The Avengers representatives presented Mayor Byrd an Avengers jersey with his college football number and his last name on the back.
"I am elated with this honor the Los Angeles Avengers have given me," Mayor Byrd said. "It was a real pleasure and fun to put on a jersey again."
Byrd was first elected to the Lynwood City Council in November 1991. His tenure as a council member for more than 13 years has provided tremendous benefits to the citizens of Lynwood. He has played a major role in shaping City policies that have revitalized the community and brought new commercial development, as well as new city facilities. His forward thinking has put Lynwood on the cutting edge of positive change.
A concern and interest in community affairs has led to his involvement in various educational, civic, and fraternal organizations: Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Alpha Psi, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Urban League, Lions Club, Trojan Football Alumni, Lynwood Democratic Club, Independent Cities Association, League of California Cities Association, Southern California Association of Governments, Congestion Management Advisory Committee - LACMTA, and Lynwood Unified School District Superintendent's Advisory Board.
Byrd continues to actively participate on numerous boards and associations: League of California Cities, California Contract Cities Association, Southeast Mayors & Council Members Organization, National League of Cities, U.S. Conference of Black Mayors, Independent Cities Association, NBC-LEO, Southern California Association of Governments, Gateway Council of Cities, NFBPA, Congestion Management Advisory Committee - LACMTA, the Lynwood Unified School District Superintendent's Advisory Board and the Los Angeles Library Commission.
